Style Tip #37: Socks and The Navy Suit: Your Workwear Staple
Wearing a navy blue suit or trousers is a popular style choice for office wear. And why not?
Navy Blue is such a versatile colour. It’s easy to look great with a variety of different shoe colours, shirts, and of course, dress socks.
So given they are such a staple item in the modern gentleman’s wardrobe, we created five simple style ideas for your navy suit or trousers.
Each style tip ranging from ‘interview formal’, to ‘Friday business-casual’. With every look we list our favourite shirt, jumper or shoe combinations, and of course, match them with the perfect sock style choice.
We hope you enjoy.
1.DON’T LIKE MONDAYs (IRONING)
We’ve all experienced that Monday feeling, when an extra 10 minutes on snooze is far more appealing than ironing a shirt for the day.
One solution is to wear a fine-knit jumper over your shirt, but you still need your business style to look really sharp.
To keep this looking smart and formal, we suggest dark navy blue for your trousers (or suit) and keep your jumper the same. Lighten the look with a crisp pale blue shirt. Smart black shoes will look great, like these double monk straps shown here.
Of course the final detail is to add the perfect flair of dress sock colour. Here we’ve chosen our beautifully detailed Jacquard Pink sock style. A plain pink coloured sock is another great option here.

2.THE BOARDROOM BLUES
Whether it’s an important meeting, the company board or even entertaining clients, it’s sometimes important to dress up more formally. This is the perfect occasion for your sharp Navy Blue Suit.
If you look great, you’re on the right foot to feel confident and make a great impression.
Keep it simple by combining a tailored dark blue suit, a crisp white shirt, and a well polished black or brown oxford shoe.
Complete the look with the perfect dress sock for your Navy Suit. Here we’ve chosen our popular Ottaway Style Burnt Orange, with it’s detailed Prince of Wales knitted pattern.
In our opinion the perfect combination.
Here is another chance to trade the full suit option for something more relaxed, while mixing up the colour combinations.
Try a plain, crew neck cashmere sweater; light grey being our choice here.
For your trousers, try either a plain navy blue or subtly patterned / textured blue style. Our choice of shirt here is a simple, crisp white slim-fit cotton.
A simple brown brogue or textured shoe will look great.
As for the ideal sock choice, we’d recommend our soft-textured Marl Grey sock style to keep things simple and distinguished.
4.WORK HARD PLAY HARD
Another great way to make the most of a sharp navy blue suit. Perfect for business, but also a dapper look for an evening out straight after work.
Once again a dark navy tailored suit, with a crisp white or pale blue dress shirt. This time we opted for the brown suede monk strap shoe.
As for the perfect sock style, we say add a real splash of colour with our striking Soho Stripe Turquoise socks.

5.CANARY WHARF CLASSIC
Perfecting the sharply dressed business look. Another well tailored, double breasted navy blue suit, complete with a classic spotted style of socks.
For the shoes we’ve picked out a stylish brown loafer, but of course you can swap these for a nice brown or black shoe of your choice.
In our opinion the perfect sock style here is our Spot of Style Bordeaux.
