Men’s Style Tips: Colour Trends for Autumn/Winter with Michael Fisher

Blog, Men’s Style Tips • 01 October 2020

Colour – and our association with it – plays a huge role our seasonal style. Think summer and you might conjure up visions of tropical blues, jaunty greens and playful pinks. As the seasons shift and months turn cooler, we instinctively mirror nature’s changing tones. Rich reds, warm browns, earthy greens and golden yellows.

We’ll let you in on a little secret, though. Our autumn/winter style palette doesn’t need to limit itself to 50 shades of conker. Bold, out-of-the box hues and patterns can help lift your outfit and your state of mind on those greyer days too. Whether it is the classic shades of an autumn leaf, or something brighter, our friend and celebrity stylist Michael Fisher shares his tips for embracing confident colour this season. And having styled the likes of Bryan Cranston, Hugh Jackman and Adam Driver (often in LSC socks), he knows what he’s talking about.

What colour trend is going to be big this autumn?

Classic blue is the colour of the year. It is fresh and optimistic – both needed for 2020. This colour really pops with black and white checks, houndstooth and plaid, blends with navy, and modernises grey.

What about classic fall colours?

When people think of autumn, they think of russets, oranges, dark greens, browns – these colours are always going to be winners in fall. Mustard and saffron (like the Simply Sartorial East India Saffrons) works well with browns and deep blues. The Rich Burgundy socks work with greys, charcoal and black.

Why are burgundy socks a stylish choice for autumn and winter?

Burgundy is a perfect colour for the season because it perfectly mimics the transitional colours of nature! It is the more sophisticated choice for your autumn and winter work wear as well as for adding colour to parties.

What colours work well with burgundy?

Burgundy works well with black, charcoal and greys, but really can make a statement with navy and classic blue, when burgundy is actually the neutral.

Burgundy can feel like quite a dressy colour – how would you pair our Simply Sartorial Rich Burgundy socks in a casual look?

A great casual balance would be with white sneakers and a graphic t-shirt.

In what other ways can you incorporate burgundy into your look this season?

Work it as an accent colour – sweaters, scarves, knit hats etc. It really mixes well with houndstooth, pinstripe and woolens; perfect for those chunky winter fabrics.

Can you describe an off-duty autumn/winter look that incorporates East India Saffron?

A tan shirts jacket or canvas rain trench, with raw denim balance the East India Saffron well.

Do you have a seasonal style secret?

I always like to think outside of the norm, especially when it is cold and grey outside. A boost of bold colour can raise anyone’s spirits. It’s nice to update the classics.
